Scaling - Removes tartar
This involves the removal of the hard deposit that forms on tooth surfaces called calculus (or tartar). Both plaque (soft deposits) and calculus are implicated in periodontal disease and their removal is essential for good oral health.
This removal can be performed with either manual instruments or in combination with a powered device called a Cavitron. Many clients find the Cavitron more comfortable than traditional hand scaling alone.
For those that do experience discomfort we utilize a gel called Oraqix. This gel is applied to the tissue and numbs the area for up to 20 minutes and does not require the use of needles.
Polishing is performed after scaling to remove stain from your teeth so if you like the occasional glass of red wine or your daily dose of coffee/tea we can remove the stain with a good polishing.
